NEGROES ASK POLICE

TO GIVE THEM A GUARD

Claiming that their lives and property had been threatened by the white men of the neighborhood, a delegation of negroes representing the colored people living in the vicinity of Lampkin street, waited on Chief Beavers at police headquarters Tuesday and requested that a guard be set in that section of the city during the night.

The appeal of the negroes is the outcome of the search made by a crowd of white men early Tuesday morning for London Green, the negro who attempted a criminal assault on an 11-year-old Beavers assured them that every precaution would be taken to preserve order, and last night detailed a number of officers. There was no trouble.
