Thursday, 11th September 1913: Hugh Dorsey Sued For $5,000 Damages, The Atlanta Constitution

An aftermath of the misunderstanding that brought on a flight early in the summer between Architect Hal Hents and Contractor J. A. Winkles in the new home of Solicitor Hugh M. Dorsey came yesterday when the contractor filed suit for $5,775 against Solicitor Dorsey.

Winkles claims that the solicitor owes him $775 on the house and that he should receive $5,000 for the slander and false reports which he says Solicitor Dorsey has spread in regard to him.

In his suit the contractor also states that he was set upon and beat up by Architects Hents and H. B. Hammond, employed by the solicitor.

JUDGE HILL MAY GET ATLANTA

That Judge Roan, of Stone Mountain Circuit, Will Be Appointed on the Court of Appeals.

While Governor John M. Slaton has made no announcement of whom he expects to appoint to fill the fourth judgeship recently created in Fulton county, it is rumored that Judge Benjamin Harvey Hill, of the court of appeals, will be selected to fill the position, and that Judge L. S. Roan, of the stone Mountain circuit, who, by special act of the legislature, has been holding the criminal division of the superior court in Fulton, will be selected to succeed Judge Hill.

Should Judge Roan be placed on the court of appeals, of which Judge Hill is now chief, a vacancy would then occur in the Stone Mountain circuit.

Solicitor General Charles S. Reid is a candidate for that position, and it is generally believed that he will be appointed.

A number of prominent attorneys are also candidates for Solicitor Reids job.

The Fulton judgeship pays $5,000 per year, while the judge of the court of appeals gets $4,000.

Judge R. B. Russell is expected to be chosen chief justice of the court of appeals in the event that Judge Hill leaves that body.
